I have been wanting to try this for a long time , there are some early Fleischmann motors that you cannot buy the insulated back plate for , in order to convert them to DCC .
So with the aid of a block of wood and a couple of correct sized machine screws (or bolts) and a vice
I did this little conversion of a Metal back plate - Fleischmann's backplates are are made of Brass , I discovered this while doing the conversion
Firstly I drilled a couple of holes in the block to have space to push the brush holding bushes out and some small hole to keep the back plate in place.
Mounted my donor back plate on the block
Pushed both brushes out one at a time. Then you end up with two parts
This is the important part (front and back)
Now with the 50 4703 - Cut the plastic next to the non grounded bush and Motor bearing bush
Now mount the 50 4703 Back plate on the block ( different mounting holes)
Carefully drill out the Grounded motor brush bush. Also counter sink the hole slightly (by hand)
You should end up with this.
Clean up the face of the back plate a bit
While you have the brush holding bush out trim off the metal that held the suppression choke

Glue the insulated brush holding bush and plastic in place with epoxy glue It will stay put if the hole is the correct size

Into the loco for a conversion to DCC
And it runs OK
