I converted this loco a while ago - but I thought it worth showing as the pick-ups on the tender are an addition on one side
The tender has pick-up from the axle tips on the other side.
Below - I added an additional pickup for the right hand wheels of the tender by modifying a spare part pick up.
The “axle ends pick up” works quite well and does not add any friction to the wheels. The whole plate is live to the left hand rail - picking up power from both ends of the axle.Normally the Draw bar is the only electrical connection between the tender and the loco - but a soldered wire is more convincing
In order to have room for the wiring to pass into the loco from the tender a small groove big enough for 4 wires (without front lights) or 6 wires (with front lights).
A small file will do this job, make sure that the edges are not sharp as the wires may wear and short on the chassis.
I normally secure loose wiring with a drop of CA in a few places, but with the TCS decoder wire it is not really necessary as it does stay in place quite well. Also not being sure whether to add lighting at this stage or later- so it is better to leave the wiring loose.
I have another one off these locos that I will add the lighting to and use a DCCconcepts Stay alive decoder as there is a bit of room left for the Capacitor and a few resistors in the tender.
