I have not had much time to add to the "On My Work Bench" thread
But I have uploaded some pictures of a little BR81 that I'm very Impressed with
I was going to do a Hard wire install - but I thought I would try a TCS EUN651( NEM651 socket) solder-less install
The EUN651 is a tiny decoder and will fit in many N scale locos - see the comparison below of a T1 MC2 and the EUN651
The Loco is a 0-8-0 shunter
Three screws to remove
Lift off the body to reveal the chassis
Remove the blanking plug
Plug in the EUN651
View from the other side
A test on the track and see how the lighting works , the SMDs are a bit bigger than I used to
and a little more amber in colour than the warm whites I use.
The best part was that it all worked extremely well , a little difficult to put the body back on - there are two pipes that nee to be coerced in the right place at the front of the loco and the steps get in the way at the cab sides. - hence the previous owner broke one off and I had to repair it.
This loco with the fly wheel equipped motor absolutely crawls , it took 2 min to travel 30cm
and a full 25 min to travel around the Roco test oval - you can barely see it moving -if you look in the cab at the motor it is tuning very slowly and the locos gearing does the rest.
The Loco and the decoder I'm very impressed with - the only thing is the lights are half wave with the EUN651 and will not operate in the forwards direction with Analog - only in reverse
