  1. RicB. New to Fleischmann. Had a layout inthe 80's, and now i want to get into it again. i recently bought a FL-423401 Diesal locomotive that will accept the Fl-697401 decoder (just $30, NEM 651 with cable). Can i use any US made DCC control system, or do i need to have a fleishmann DCC control.

  2. Hi Bill,

The beauty of DCC is that it is all made to common guidelines so all systems are theoretically compatible by this I mean that decoders of one brand will operate with any DCC system. There are sometime issues with cheaper brands made in China like the very basic Hornby system . Most US made equipment is well designed and manufactured.

    Cheers

  3. Hi Ric, I have recently purchased 2 Fleischmann locos (BR24 095 and BR53 7753) as non runners. They are factory fitted with 6 pin decoders but run very erratically, each decoder has 2 green wires attached to a capacitor (stay alive?) but do not run at all with the capacitor removed. Any thoughts on the bad running or the capacitors.
    Thanks,
    David

  4. Probably the best course of action would be get a 6pin blanking or bypass plug. If you have another DC newish loco they probably have one installed. With this in place instead of the decoder try to get the loco running on DC . Clean contacts on the wheels and axles . Sometimes there is oil buildup on the motor brushes as well. Once running well on DC try the decoder again. Or try a different 6 pin decoder.

    Hope this helps.
